Safety
Safety at Little Dixie
At Little Dixie Landfill, the safety of our colleagues, customers and community is our top priority. We work with community stakeholders and regulators to ensure compliance and uphold our environmental stewardship responsibilities.
How We Protect the Community
-
Expert team: Our on-site employees have over 90 years of combined waste management experience.
-
Groundwater monitoring: Little Dixie Landfill utilizes four groundwater monitoring wells, an engineered liner and leachate collection system to protect the regional groundwater supply. We contract with hydrogeologists, engineers, and environmental technicians utilizing the latest laboratory analysis techniques to verify that groundwater and surface water leaving the site are not degraded.
-
Air quality: Landfill gas is collected through a system of 203 extraction wells. The Landfill’s surface is routinely scanned via drone and surface monitoring for gas emissions.
-
Regular inspections: Little Dixie Landfill is inspected regularly by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.
-
Waste screening: Little Dixie Landfill screens every load of waste prior to it entering the landfill. Electronic and hazardous waste is removed from the waste stream.
-
Continuous oversight: We use sophisticated data management software that allows operators to monitor the gas collection system right from their smartphones. This ensures that our personnel are informed about our infrastructure operation 24 hours a day.
